Lighting strike causes water main break in Dubois Co.

DUBOIS CO., IN (WFIE) - People in the town of Ireland in Dubois County have water now, but that wasn't the case Thursday morning.

Officials with Ireland Utilities Inc. say lightning struck a tree in the area of Skyview Drive and Fifth Avenue on Jasper's west side, went into the ground and hit the utility's main water line.

Utility Board President Andy Hulsman says the main was splintered.

The broken main caused the water level in the tower north of State Road 56 and east of County Road 500W to decrease.

Some customers had no water or experienced low water pressure until the main was repaired around 11:00 a.m.
