LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man who was found dead on a porch in the Original Highlands neighborhood Thursday morning has been identified.
According to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bob Jones, Dennis Scoles, 33, died of a gunshot wound around 9:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Rubel Avenue, near Phoenix Hill Tavern.
"It's a really sad tragedy," said Katy Delahanty, a neighbor of the victim.
Having lived in the area for the past five years, Delahanty said she was not used to seeing crime tape in the neighborhood she called home.
"This is the first time I've ever seen anything violent like this in this neighborhood whatsoever," said Delahanty.
"That resident had discovered another occupant of their residence on the front porch who was obviously deceased," said Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Alicia Smiley.
Neighbors gathered in the street as police blocked off Rubel Avenue between Benton Avenue and Broadway as they processed the crime scene.
Police confirmed they were investigating Scoles' death as a homicide, but many questions remained to be answered late Thursday morning.
"Finding out specifically, what were his last moments? Was he expected home at a certain time? Or perhaps, had he been out the prior night," began Smiley, "those are things that we're still trying to learn."
While the lack of answers isn't sitting well with some neighbors, Delahanty said she still felt safe.
"My roommate's pretty concerned. A lot of people have been checking in. Our next door neighbor across the street seemed pretty upset as well," said Delahanty.
