HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (WFIE) - Deputies from the Hopkins County Sheriff's office are warning residents about a new phone scam popping up in the area.
Deputies tell us they've had several reports of people getting threatening phone calls from someone claiming to be law enforcement, or a member of a prosecuting attorney's office. Authorities say the callers want to know the person's birthday, and when you don't give them the information, they threaten to hunt you down.
"The person on the other end was somewhat rude to the caller. Stated that they would find them. They would use other resources to be able to hunt them down and locate them. And then once the individual who received the phone call somewhat disputed it, they began to somewhat withdraw and said most likely nothing would happen with this phone call," said Deputy Joe Stratton.
Deputies say if you receive a call, do not give them any personal information including your date of birth.
