LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Emergency calls made after two teenagers were stabbed onboard a TARC bus in Louisville have been obtained by WAVE 3 News.
The 911 tapes revealed two calls were made to emergency dispatchers about five minutes apart. Both came from the TARC dispatcher to alert police there was trouble onboard the bus when Anthony Allen boarded on March 16.
In surveillance video of the incident released by Louisville Metro police Allen was clearly angry and lashing out at both the driver and other passengers, including the group of teenagers that included Me'quale Offutt.
The first call alerts police there was a problem onboard.
TARC Radio: I have Coach 1301 that's going to be standing by at 28th and Broadway, eastbound. MetroSafe: MmmHmm TARC Radio: She have a passenger on her bus. He's very belligerent, um, and he's talking very, very nasty and abusive (pause) people on the bus, telling them all types of nasty things that he's going to do.
The second is from after the fight that resulted in Offutt's death.
TARC Radio: I called about my unit 1301 at 28th and Broadway. TARC Radio: Um, We... the guy that's on the bus, he stabbed some kids that's on the bus that's right there at 28th and Broadway. I'm trying to get a description of the guy right now. MetroSafe: He stabbed them? TARC Radio: Yeah. MetroSafe: Alright, Let me get them .. Let me get, uh, get them up there then. TARC Radio: Alright. MetroSafe: Uh huh
Police originally arrested Allen for assault, then later upgraded his charges to murder after Offutt died.
Police said the teenagers told them Allen was the aggressor and Allen himself originally didn't disagree. Then, the surveillance video showed a different story. Prosecutors said the video showed Allen defending himself against an attack.
A grand jury cleared Allen of all pending charges, finding he acted in self defense.
