LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Churchill Downs announced on Tuesday the 140 people who will participate in this year's Survivors Parade immediately prior to the Kentucky Oaks race on Friday, May 2.

This will be the sixth year for the Survivors Parade, which is a march of breast and ovarian cancer survivors on Churchill Downs' historic track.

Among this year's participants will be Joanna Smith, mother of WAVE 3 News anchor Dawne Gee. Smith, a breast cancer survivor, has been cancer-free since March 30, 2011. Read her story by clicking here.

A record 433 survivors were nominated this year, raising awareness about breast and ovarian cancer. The public voted, and the 140 people with the most votes not only can walk in the parade, they also get two free seats at the track on Oaks Day.
