Groundbreaking announced for new sports complex

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau has announced the groundbreaking date for its new sports complex.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Goebel Soccer Complex parking lot along North Green River Road.

Bids for the complex were awarded last week except for the lighting package.

All six bids for the lighting were rejected.

CVB Executive Director Bob Warren says the rebidding will not delay the project.

The 96-acre sports complex will be home to eight baseball/softball fields

The $14 million project will be funded by the lodging tax, which is generated by visitors to Evansville.
