Know Before You Go: Week of March 31

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The following traffic changes will be in effect this week due to construction on the new downtown and east end crossings.

Work Currently Underway:

Louisville Streets:

•Adams Street from Campbell Street to Cabel Street is scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, April 9 for paving work.

•Witherspoon Street from Preston Street to Clay Street is scheduled to be closed through Friday, April 11 to set beams.

•The left lane of Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street is scheduled to be closed through Friday, April 11 for bridge work.

•The right lane and right parking lane on Market Street from Jackson Street to Hancock Street are scheduled to be closed through Friday, April 18 for bridge work.

Work scheduled to begin Monday, March 31:

•The ramp from I-71 South to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Monday, March 31-Wednesday, April 2 for re striping and guardrail work. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

•One lane of I-71 South from the Beargrass Creek overpass to I-64 is scheduled to close overnight Monday, March 31-Wednesday, April 2 for re striping and guardrail work. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 1:

• The ramp from I-64 East to I-71 North is scheduled to be closed overnight Tuesday, April 1-Thursday, April 3 for temporary paving and re striping. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

•One lane of I-71 North from I-64 to the Beargrass Creek overpass is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, April 1-Thursday, April 3 for temporary paving and re striping. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled for Thursday, April 3:

•Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, April 3 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Work scheduled for Friday, April 4:

•The ramp from I-64-East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Friday, April 4 to set beams. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled to begin Monday, March 31:

•Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to close overnight Monday, March 31-Friday, April 11 to set beams. It's expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

•Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to close overnight Monday, March 31-Friday, April 11 to set beams. It's expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled to begin Friday, April 4:

•The right lane and both parking lanes on Market Street from Preston Street to Floyd Street are scheduled to close Friday, April 4-Tuesday, April 15 to deliver beams.

•The right lane of Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Main Street is scheduled to close Friday, April 4-Sunday, April 6 to set beams.

Work scheduled for Saturday, April 5:

•Market Street from Preston Street to Floyd Street is scheduled to close overnight Friday, April 5 to set beams. It's expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

•The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.

•The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

•Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

•7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

•VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.

•US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

•US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane. Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.

•The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.

•Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It's expected to remain closed into July 2014.

•Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The southbound sidewalk is also closed. The restrictions are expected to be in place for several weeks.

East End Crossing:

Indiana: Lane restrictions on SR 62 March 31 - April 4

There will be lane restrictions on SR 62 in Indiana in the vicinity of the SR 265 and SR 62 interchange March 31-April 4. The lane restrictions will be in place for about a half mile in each direction of the interchange. Residents are asked to use caution and drive slowly when driving in the area during this time.

Indiana Blasting schedule for week of March 31:

Blasting to prepare for the East End Crossing is scheduled to occur in Indiana, just east of Utica, between the Ohio River and Salem Road during the week of March 31. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped on Upper River Road for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

•Monday, March 31: Two blasts at about 4:30 p.m.

•Tuesday, April 1: Two blasts at about 4:30 p.m.

•Wednesday, April 2: Two blasts at about 4:30 p.m.

•Thursday, April 3: One blast at about 4:30 p.m.

•Friday, April 4: One blast at about 4:30 p.m.

Blasting will also take place in Indiana just north of the blasting location above. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

•Thursday, April 3: One blast at about 5 p.m.

•Friday, April 4: One blast at about 5 p.m.

Kentucky Blasting schedule for week of March 31:

Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841 during the week of March 31.

Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began Jan. 27, 2014, in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting will be:

•Monday, March 31, at about 7:15 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Tuesday, April 1, at about 7:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Wednesday, April 2, at about 7:15 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Thursday, April 3, at about 7:15 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Friday, April 4, at about 7:15 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Saturday, April 5 at about 10 a.m.

Surface Blasting:

Surface blasting, which began in June 2013, does require traffic stops. Surface blasting also takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

•Monday, March 31, at about 2:15 p.m.

•Tuesday, April 1, at about 2:15 p.m.

•Wednesday, April 2, at about 2:15 p.m.

•Thursday, April 3, at about 2:15 p.m.

•Friday, April 4, at about 2:15 p.m.

In addition to the tunnel and surface blasting taking place at the intersection of KY 841 and U.S. 42, surface blasting will take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting at the north portal (within 15 minutes) will be:

•Monday, March 31, at about 3 p.m.

•Tuesday, April 1, at about 3 p.m.

•Wednesday, April 2, at about 3 p.m.

•Thursday, April 3, at about 3 p.m.

•Friday, April 4, at about 3 p.m.
