KY company earns Governor's safety award

A commercial explosives company in Muhlenberg County earns the Governor's Safety and Health Award for 1,000,000 hours of work without a lost-time accident.

Deputy Secretary Rocky Comito of the Kentucky Labor Cabinet was on hand Thursday at Dyno Nobel to present the award.

About 70 people work at the Graham plant.

The company has gone more than seven years without a lost-time accident.

"The people who made this happen, this achievement, is because they work safely. They came home and went home each day as healthy as when they come to work," said Jim Jarvis, Dyno Nobel Site Manager.

"Dyno Nobel has got a worldwide record of doing that, this is just one of the many facilities that have received awards or recognition for their safety efforts and how they treat their employees," said Rocky Comito, Kentucky Labor Cabinet.

The award is part of Governor Steve Beshear's efforts to improve the health of workers in the Bluegrass State.
