WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –The City of Wilmington is trying to crack down on speeding in residential neighborhoods, but apparently not all city employees got the memo.

WECT and Fox Wilmington's Caraline Waldrep was in the area Friday morning for a live report to explain the city's multi-step process to address speeding.

A study showed that a little over 60% of drivers speed in the Long Leaf Hills neighborhood, and our cameras revealed officers with the Wilmington Police Department are part of that group.

Several drivers followed suit throughout the morning and continued to drive over the speed limit, despite the radar readers in the neighborhood.

According to the City of Wilmington, officers issued more than 100 tickets to speeders in the Long Leaf Hills neighborhood in just four days in February.

Speed minder signs have been installed in the area to heighten awareness. The City of Wilmington will deploy the speed reader radar again in a few week to gauge whether the program has been effective.

Do you think these tactics will cut down on speeding drivers in the area? Let us know in the comment section below.
