EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett announced Thursday that 27-year-old Basil Kamali has been sentenced to 48 months following his guilty plea to knowingly receiving a firearm with the intent to commit a robbery.

Kamali is a convicted felony and was on state parole for burglary and attempted robbery.

The U.S. Attorney's office says Kamali arranged a meeting on January 4 at the Walmart on South Red Bank Road to buy a gun.

ATF agents and detectives from the Evansville Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force (JTF) set up a sting operation.

Police say Kamali told the undercover officers that he planned to commit a robbery and had a target in mind.

They say he offered to pay for the gun with the proceeds of the robbery.

Kamali was arrested during his meeting with the undercover officers.
