Owensboro becoming a more sustainable community

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Owensboro recently became the first in Kentucky to join Audubon International Sustainable Communities Program.

The city beautification group PRIDE, will now fine-tune a long term community vision. Organizers say this is a great opportunity for growth and more environmental protection.

"We have things like the green belt linear park. We are revitalizing downtown we are making this new walkable neighborhood, so this program gives us an opportunity for us to show other communities what we are already doing is so great," said Andy Hutchinson, PRIDE's Chairman.

Some of their goals include planting more greenery and flowers downtown, and working closely with the hospital as well as farmer's market.

PRIDE is now in the process of receiving sustainable community certification.
