Power restored to Lucas County Jail

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Crews have restored power after an overnight outage at the Lucas County Jail.

The power went out around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Toledo Edison crews worked through the night to find the source of the outage. Lucas County Sheriff John Tharp says they determined the outage was caused by a blown transformer.

Toledo Edison workers restored power to the booking area early Wednesday afternoon. According to Tharp, anyone arrested and brought to be booked overnight was held in patrol cars outside the jail. They have since resumed the booking process.

Emergency lights were used inside the jail, and the sheriff's office put extra security in place on the perimeter of the jail. Tharp stressed the extra patrols were present only as a precaution, and that there was no safety risk.

Power was fully restored to the building around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
