Victim of I-71 accident identified

OLDHAM COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 71 south has resulted in a headache for drivers trying to get into Louisville. 

Major Jimmie Laytham, Jr. of the Oldham County Police Department said the accident was reported at 9:26 a.m. at the 12.5 mile marker, just north of the Oldham County/Jefferson County line.

Laytham said the crash involved a total of five vehicles - three of them passenger vehicles and two commercial - were involved. The driver of one of the passenger vehicles, Sherri Bray, 48, of Pendleton, KY, was killed in the crash. According to Laytham, Bray was heading south on I-71 when her Chrysler 200 was hit from behind by a box truck and forced her car under the rear of a of a semi trailer.

Three people were injured in the crash and taken to area hospitals for treatment. Their injuries are considered to be non-life threatening.

As of 4 p.m., the southbound lanes remain shut down at the 28 mile marker. Andrea Clifford of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said traffic is being detoured via KY 153 north to US 42. Motorists can follow US 42 through Henry and Oldham counties to the Gene Snyder Freeway in Jefferson County. Clifford said all entrance ramps to southbound I-71 in Oldham County have been closed while police conduct their investigation at the accident scene.
