EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - A new sculpture will soon greet visitors at Evansville Regional Airport.
The decision has been a year in the making and the sculpture will sit at the entrance to the airport.
The Keep Evansville Beautiful board and the airport board chose 'Aerial Beauty' by Oakland City artist, Bob Zasadny, as the winner.
He tells 14 News that his artwork shows the moment of transition into flight.
Zasadny says his sculpture was one of 16 submitted and they were narrowed down by a public vote.
He says he hopes to get started on the sculpture very soon, but Keep Evansville Beautiful members say they still need to raise $100,000 and they're hoping the community will help out.
"It's just a joy to be able to know that thousands of people are going to be able to see this thing and they'll remember Evansville fondly. I hope because they've been able to see what someone locally can accomplish by following a dream and persevering. I hope I can be an example in that way to other up and coming artists because I didn't give up," Zasadny said.
If you would like to donate, you can contact Keep Evansville Beautiful. A completion date for the installation has not yet been set.
