Fans paying big bucks to see UK and UofL in Sweet Sixteen

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's the ticket everyone wants to get their hands on! University of Louisville Cardinal and University of Kentucky Wildcat fans are scrambling to find a way to get a seat at Lucas Oil Stadium for Friday's game and options are quickly running out.

Fans at Fan Outfitter in St. Matthews said they bought their tickets on StubHub and just in time before prices skyrocketed. The two women shopping for new gear on Monday said they spent between $150 to $180 for their tickets, which is really a steal!

Cats fan, Cortney Burden, said she got her ticket for $150.

"My husband bought tickets at half time during the game and low and behold right after the game, after the final second, the tickets had already doubled online within an hour and half," said Burden.

Cards fan Saundra Handley-Dickerson spent $180 for her ticket.

"Every time we go to place the tickets, the prices were going up, jumping sky high," said Handley-Dickerson.

The phones at Derbybox.com in Jeffersonville have been ringing off the hook. They do ticket sales for all kinds of events, a huge part of their business is Derby but, you can image what everyone is calling about now.

"Crazy is here, this is where we are and it all started last night," said CEO of Derbybox.com, Doug Dearen.

Ticketmaster, a primary source of tickets is sold out. People who want to get their tickets from a licensed ticket broker have been calling local companies in Indiana like Derbybox.com. If you want to go, get ready to dish out a lot of money.

Prices have gone through the roof because of demand and it's a free market in Indiana.

"We've been selling some tickets this morning for as much as $2,000 a ticket down on the floor ticket close to the basket," said Dearen. "You can also, just to get in for this game, you can probably get in for as little as $500 to $600 and basically it was originally a $90 ticket face value."

If you really want to enjoy the game you could spend around $13,000 to be in a suite, food and beverages included.
