Early morning house fire in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Firefighters battled a house fire at 21 E. Missouri in Evansville Monday morning.

A neighbor called 911 at 7:24 a.m. when he smelled smoke. Firefighters arrived just two minutes later.

The fire was out around 7:55, but the upstairs area of the house is destroyed.

A woman, her husband and five kids live in the home, but no one was there at the time of the fire.

Two dogs and two cats were rescued; another cat did not survive.

A cause has not yet been determined.
