Franklin St. restaurants are 'sticking together' to help apartment fire victims

Posted: Updated:

Several businesses are donating some of their proceeds to those impacted by the deadly apartment house fire on Franklin Street.

The three restaurants having a fundraiser are Gerst Haus, Smitty's, and Sportsman's.

Starting Friday, the servers will be wearing signs on their backs that say "Franklin Street sticks together."

Customers can come in and 'stick a dollar' to servers and those dollars will then go to the fire victims.

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 10% of all food sales will be donated and the restaurants are also taking monetary donations and household and toiletry donations.

The restaurants will also have a raffle. Anyone who donates a dollar to the fire victims will get a chance to win a gift card.

"It hit home, very much so," said Smitty's Assistant Manager Audrey Miller. "Most of our employees, including me, live in this neighborhood. To hear something like that happen so close to our homes made us really just want to do something to give back."

Family members are going to the house Saturday on Franklin Street to have a vigil to remember those who lost their lives.

All three locations will be collectinghousehold items and toiletries for those families misplaced in this tragic fire. There will also be a drawing for a $50 gift card by donating $1.
