Millions of dollars in Union Co. highway projects cut

Posted: Updated:
UNION CO., KY (WFIE) -

Tens of millions of dollars of recommended highway projects in Union County were cut by the Kentucky House of Representatives Thursday.

Proposed projects like widening US-60, between Morganfield and Corydon, including a Waverly bypass, were halted this week after the House said "no" to those projects.

These were plans that Governor Beshear recommended.

Democrats and Republicans both blame party politics in previous bill votes as the reason for the cuts.

Meanwhile a lot of people along that stretch of US-60 in Waverly are saying they don't want US-60 to expand.

Dana Bishop owns a liquor shop and a home along the route and says an expanded US-60 would destroy both.

"We don't need it," said Dana Bishop. "Union County does not need an eight lane highway going through here."

14 News tried talking with Senator Dorsey Ridley of Henderson, and Representative Suzanne Miles, who both serve Union County, about the decision by the house but we have not heard either.
