MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) -

The multi-million dollar sports complex in Muhlenberg County is beginning to take shape.

Officials say in just a few short months, phase one of the premier sports complex will be complete.

Crews are about 60 percent of the way through phase one of the $8.5 million project which includes five baseball and softball fields, five tennis courts, two basketball courts, one sand volleyball court, playgrounds, batting cages, and park buildings.

The Ray Jones Family Athletic Complex is on track to be completed in July. Officials say, although the weather has put them two weeks behind, they're making up lost time.

"The weather has slowed us down, but we are still on target somewhere around the July time frame to be able to take control of the park," says Steve Wells, Muhlenberg County Parks and Recreation Chairman.

Organizers already have six tournaments on the schedule and 90 teams registered. That means thousands of parents and kids flooding into Muhlenberg hotels, restaurants, and local shops.
