Evansville Red Cross to host "Heroes Blood Drive" today

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville Red Cross is hoping hundreds of people in the Tri-State celebrate St. Patrick's Day by rolling up their sleeves and donating blood.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, the Red Cross will be hosting their quarterly blood drive as part of their "Red Cross Heroes" campaign. The campaign encourages people to be Red Cross "heroes" by donating their time, money or blood.

Blood is the item most-needed here at the Red Cross today. The Evansville-Wabash Valley Red Cross supplies blood to nineteen local hospitals.

Regional CEO Amy Canterbury says that supply is running lower than usual. Previous drives and regular donations took a hit this winter because of bad weather.

The Red Cross is giving out free goodies to those who donate, including a free Red Cross t-shirt and free food provided by the Pie Pan.

You shouldn't wait for the complimentary food to eat though.

All donors should have eaten and should drink at least 16 ounces of water before donating.

Donors should also have their blood donor card, driver's license OR two forms of ID and weigh at least 110 LBS.
