HANSON, KY (WFIE) -If you drive quickly through a small town community, you might just miss it. A place you never really notice until you need it.
It's the fire department usually made up on all volunteers, and the Hanson volunteer fire department, desperately needs more volunteers to protect their community.
"It's really become over the past year and become more noticeable," said Assistant Chief Scott Stevenson.
Fire Department officials say while they do get around one hundred thousand dollars a year in fire dues, the thing they need now is just more people.
"Unfortunately we do get a fair number of daytime runs and it's hard to get a response so we rely on our mutual aid departments to come and help take care of the problem for us," says Stevenson.
The Hanson fire district is the largest in Hopkins County and the need for daytime volunteers is increasing. Officials say all the available training to become a volunteer firefighter can be done in-house at the Hanson station. If you would like more information, you're encouraged to call 1-800-FIRELINE.
