"We got new rides, five new children's rides arriving tomorrow. We got planners coming from all over the U.S.," said Dan Koch, the new owner of Splash Adventure in Bessemer.
A very energetic Dan Koch just bought Splash Adventure Thursday and he has not wasted any time. The goal is to put his family's mark on the investment by turning it into a top destination for families in Alabama.
"We're going to resurrect the Amusement Park in 2014. We're only going to get bigger. We're going to have more and more rides and slides every year," said Koch.
The Koch Family has seventy-five years experience in the amusement park industry. It owns Holiday World Theme Park and Splashin' Safari Water Park in Santa Claus, Indiana. Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley is looking forward to what Koch wants to do.
"We're excited about it. To know when someone comes in and makes an investment like that in our city, we know the park is viable. It's an amenity to the youth and adults in the city. We would hate to see it leave Bessemer," Gulley said.
Koch says the park has had many names and owners and his goal is to be the last owner. He's very confident the park will thrive under his family's ownership and he says it'll be a whole different place when it opens in May. The park is now owned and operated by a man who calls himself a "theme park guy."
The new attractions include junior bumper boats and mini helicopters. There is a job fair on Saturday, March 22 to hire new park members. It is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
