EPD: Drugs, handgun found after two men run from officers

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville Police Department says two men were arrested after running from an officer in the 1300 block of S. Elliot St Monday evening.

EPD says the officer attempted to talk to 22-year-old Todd Covington and 18-year-old Dugniqio Forest while trying to find a person with a felony warrant. When the officer got out of his patrol car, police say both men fled on foot.

Both men were caught after a short foot chase.

EPD says officers found cocaine in Covington's pocket and he was arrested for resisting law enforcement and possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school. Forest was arrested for resisting law enforcement.

EPD says while retracing the path the two suspects ran, officers found a handgun.

Officer were unable to determine if either of the suspects had tossed the gun while running. The gun was collected by crime scene for testing.
