EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - 14 News has learned a potential error made in issuing a contractor's license has sparked an internal review within the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Commissioners Office.
Building Commissioner Ben Miller confirms to 14 News, what he calls a technical error, may have allowed a contractor to gain a license without having to complete the city's licensing requirements.
Miller also says the contractor involved was a bidder for the Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau's new sports complex. He says that license may be invalid but would not say who the contractor is.
14 News was at the CVB on February 18 when the bids for the project were opened. At that time we were told the winning bids would be announced last week.
CVB Exec. Director Bob Warren tells 14 News there are "some issues to be resolved and they are waiting to resolve those issues before moving forward with this critical project."
Miller says this is an internal issue and does not involve the CVB. He says they are reviewing all records to see what circumstances may have lead to the license being issued.
Warren tells us the CVB is excited to get the sports complex off the ground and he's hoping to be able to announce the four winning bids for the sports complex late next week.
