Warrick Co. officials confident their site is best option for IU med school

WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

Warrick County officials hope they are a step closer to landing the Indiana University Medical School.

Warrick County's site along the Warrick Wellness Trail off State Route 66 and Epworth Rd is one of four that could potentially be the campus' home.

The county is promising to put some of its tax money towards the project.

The county council, county commissioners, and the county redevelopment commission all agree that if they are selected, 75% of their economic development income tax, after budgeting and other projects, will go to creating the med center.

Officials say this will not cause an increase in taxes and will lower the developer's lease payments.

County Council President Gary Meyer says he is confident their site is the best option.

County officials say an apartment complex and hotel have shown interest in building near the site if it is chosen.

It's expected IU will announce the location of the med center in April.
