Taking a Stand: Situation in Ukraine

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Russia's 'afterglow' from the Sochi Olympics didn't last long. The fast moving events in Ukraine are disturbing.

WFIE developed a relationship with a television station in Ternopil with visits to Kiev and other Ukrainian cities.   We also hosted a delegation from Ternopil.

WFIE joined a handful of US media representatives picked to foster the development of privately-owned TV stations in the former Soviet Republic.

14 News anchor David James was among those who personally lobbied the governor of the district for greater transparency between the government and the media.

I traveled to Chervanesti in the spring of 2012 as a representative from WFIE in a continued effort to help our TV partners in the Ukraine.

Now we see a threat to the democracy so cherished by those we got to know.

No one wants to see another 'cold war' with the Russians... but I think it's important for the u-s and its allies to continue their support of the leaders and people of Ukraine.

The Olympics are over....Russia put on a good show...too bad President Putin has now tarnished the image of a new 'Russia.'

That's my stand, what's yours?
