DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) -

A Daviess Co., KY man is arrested and another person is hurt after leading an off duty Owensboro police officer on a chase.

The Owensboro Police Department says the off duty officer was traveling from the Whitesville area to Owensboro when he saw a suspicious vehicle parked on Windy Hill Road.

OPD says when officer stopped and approached the vehicle it sped off and turned onto KY 54. Police say the officer turned on his emergency lights and followed.

Police say the driver, 34-year-old William Layne, of Whitesville, then turned off his headlights in an attempt to evade the officer.

OPD says the officer lost track of Layne's vehicle, but a short time later saw it wrecked on KY 54 just west of Sawmill Road.

Authorities say a female passenger in the vehicle was taken to Owensboro Regional Health with minor injuries.

Layne was taken into custody by Kentucky State Police and charged with DUI, Fleeing and Evading Police and Failure to Maintain Insurance.

He was taken to the Daviess County Detection Center.
