State Representative Ben Waide introduced a new bill Tuesday aimed at increasing penalties for possession and trafficking of synthetic drugs.
Officials with the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force say they are now seeing e-cigarettes filled with synthetic drugs, and those e-cigs are getting into the hands of children.
In Hopkins County last year, twenty deaths have been blamed over the use of synethics.
"I spoke to a physician from Baptist Health and he talked about how he had just seen patients who had taken a synthetic drug one time and a month later he was still psychotic," said Ben Waide.
Madisonville Police are also on alert about an influx of synthetic heroin into Northern Kentucky and police say it won't be long before it reaches our area.
