Hopkins Co. hoping for no more snow, salt supplies low

Posted: Updated:
HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Salt supplies are running low for some road crews across the Tri-State, including Hopkins County where officials hope there's no more snow or ice this season.

The dome that stores the salt is normally filled to the top for road crews. Now, supplies are running low.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is just riding out this prolonged winter like the rest of us. They're wishing for no more storms, but at this rate, expecting the worst.

Before the recent storm began, crews said they had about 83-hundred tons left and had to ration out what's left.

"I'm not down here all the time. Of course, we start the year with it full pretty much to the top, so it does give you pause to see it this empty," says Keith Todd with KYTC.

Officials say just buying more is not an option. No matter the price, suppliers say there is no more salt.
