The trial of Jerry Wayne Dulin II is underway.

Evansville police say Dulin shot and killed 35-year-old Donnie Dejarnett Jr. exactly one year ago this week.

Police tell 14 News that the victim was driving an SUV down New York Avenue when Dulin shot Dejarnett in the head. The SUV crashed into a tree and police say Dulin ran from the scene and he was arrested a short time later.

The state called 10 witnesses to the stand and testimony was inconsistent in regards to the color of the SUV and details about the gun.

One witness testified that he saw the suspect shoot Dejarnett after the accident. Others testified that the victim was bleeding from his head before they heard gunshots.

The trial will resume Wednesday morning.
