HOPKINSVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

An Evansville man has been arrested in Hopkinsville, Kentucky where he is accused of beating his mother to death.

Hopkinsville Police received a call about a disturbance that took place at the Mason Point Apartments on Elm Street around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers say when they arrived they found 29-year-old Jamal Mounts, of Evansville, assaulting a woman. Police also found Mounts' mother, 65-year-old Roxie C. Mounts, of Hopkinsville, unresponsive and lying in the breezeway of the apartment building.

Authorities say he apparently assaulted Roxie before officers arrived. The Christian County Coroner says she died of blunt force trauma at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled.

Police say the other woman who was assaulted by Jamal was 69-year-old Marvelyn Spray, of Hopkinsville. She was taken to the hospital for treatment and was alert and talking.

Jamal was taken into custody and charges against him are pending as the incident remains under investigation.
