Springfield Museums celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

This weekend marks the 110th birthday of Dr. Seuss and the Springfield Museums celebrated the only way they knew how.

The museums held a day-long party in honor of the Springfield native.

There were two concerts featuring "The Deedle Deedle Dees".

Folks could create their own Cat in the Hat style hats and judge the Seuss cake contest.

One Western Massachusetts parent told CBS 3 that it was an important day to take her child to the museums.

"It's educational and there are some activities for her to enjoy," said Monson resident Marilyn Fil. "It introduces her to more than Dr. Seuss. She had never seen the dinosaur for example. And she saw the cheetah and elephants, things she's learning in school."

After the cake contest was over, voters' names were pulled and the winners got to take the cakes home.

All of the Dr. Seuss activities were included with Saturday's paid museums admission.
