A new policy will go into place for Evansville trash pickup next week.
City officials say when the new carts rolled out last year, additional trash bags could be set next to the cart for pickup.
But not anymore. All trash must now fit into the one cart.
Officials say it's all in an effort to reduce waste and encourage recycling.
"All of their trash needs to be containerized in their cart. Additional yard waste, the equivalent of one re-load can be placed next to the container and the drivers will get out of the truck reload it into the cart and empty the cart. What we're really hoping will happen is people will recycle more making extra room in their trash cart making extra room so they won't have to put anything next to the cart," said Ed Ziemer with Evansville Water and Sewer Utility.
The new pickup policy starts this week. If you still need an additional trash cart, there's a $100 fee.
