After some deliberation over a picture sent to 14 News from a viewer, the National Weather Service confirms that a small tornado touched down Thursday night near a field in Hopkins County.
The NWS say the tornado touched down around 7:40 p.m. in Mortons Gap and didn't cause any damage.
Three separate crews drove through the northern Webster County and southern Union County areas and could only find a few tree limbs.
"From help with you all at the TV station, through Hopkins County Emergency Management, we were able to verify that picture was indeed taken in Mortons Gap facing northward and we do have a picture of a tornado there," said Rick Shackling with the NWS.
Crews tell us they were skeptical of the tornado picture at first, but it all matches up.
