The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is continuing to prepare for upgrades to the Interstate 69 Interchange with the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway south of Madisonville in Hopkins County.
Starting Thursday, southbound traffic on Interstate 69 will be restricted from about mile marker 106 to about the 105 mile marker. Traffic will move to the left-hand or passing lane.
As a reminder, the KYTC says all southbound traffic on the Pennyrile Parkway has been moved to the left-hand or passing lane starting at about the 35 mile marker and extending to the Pennyrile Parkway Interchange with I-69/Western Kentucky Parkway.
Officials say lane restrictions will allow the contractor to continue clearing brush along the right of way and will eventually lead to construction activity along the northwest quadrant of the existing interchange.
This initial clearing work is expected to take a few weeks. Officials say the contractor will then return when weather improves to start moving dirt at the site.
Motorists are asked to be alert for future restrictions as construction continues to ramp up over the next year.
