A U.S. Representative for Kentucky's first district, Ed Whitfield, was at Henderson Community College on Wednesday to speak at a round-table hosted by Kyndle.
A lot of items were discussed at the event, but one thing that was mentioned the most was the I-69 project.
Plans that have been set for years take I-69 through Madisonville, Henderson and Evansville.
Now, Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne is trying to get the interstate to go the city.
Both mayors of Evansville and Henderson say there are no plans to change the route.
Representative Whitfield is also saying there's no way it will go to Owensboro.
"I-69 is not going to be rerouted. We've been working on this for many, many years I've been working on this ever since I've been in Congress and its already set so we're not going to re-visit this issue," Whitfield said.
Mayor Payne tells 14 News that he thinks the state needs to look at the project again to see what the most efficient and economical route is, but Whitfield says the state and the federal delegations are already committed to the current plan.
