An Evansville educator has been recognized for her work in developing women leaders in the area.
Bosse High School Principal Sheila Huff was awarded the 2014 ATHENA Award by the Southwest Indiana Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with A Network of Evansville Women.
Huff has worked for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation for more than 37 years.
She has taught, served as Bosse's head girls' track coach from 1976-1998, coached girls' gymnastics, boys' tennis and volleyball.
She has earned a lifetime achievement award from the IHAA and still finds time to volunteer in the community.
Huff told 14 News she wasn't expecting to win the award at all.
"My son said, 'Mom, you have a snowball's chance in Hades of winning because we're sitting in the back.' I said, 'Well I'm not winning anyways, why are you wasting your money?' I had no idea," said Huff.
Huff says she was always raised to care for others when you can.
As part of the award, the Chamber has made a donation in Huff's name to the YWCA.
