Water customers in Owensboro could soon see higher monthly bills.
OMU is proposing a water rate increase because they say their costs are rising and people are using less water.
The OMU Commission met Thursday afternoon to review a water cost study that determines where OMU should set water rates to cover their expenses.
The study says OMU needs to increase the average households water by $2.55 in April and then increase the rate by another $2.96 by April 2015.
OMU says water rates have to go up so they'll be able to continue updating their system.
OMU says they're proposing to increase rates in two phases to lessen the financial impact on water customers.
OMU says even if the proposed increases take place they will still have the lowest water prices in the region.
