HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (WFIE) - Officials say that $200,000 in coal severance funds will go towards the first responder emergency radio project in Hopkins County.
Officials say the money will purchase new radios and consoles for vehicles for both the jail employees and the Hopkins County Sheriff's office.
Officials say the project is on schedule and this is just one more grant which keeps taxpayers from footing the bill.
"Yeah the reason why were doing this piece by piece is because we don't want to have to go to local fiscal court and ask for money. We're using available tax money on the federal and state level to try to complete this project."
Officials hope to have all the infrastructure in place for the project by April.
