Abandoned animals in need of new home

Posted: Updated:
GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -

The search is on to find new homes for cats and dogs following the passing of a Gibson County woman who spent much of her life creating a safe-haven for the abandoned animals.

With the help of Kenny Mansell, 85-year-old Delores Zimmerman has taken care of abandoned animals for almost 12 years.

Kenny is an animal lover just like Delores and says he doesn't mind taking care of what, or who, she left behind, but he says he cannot afford it.

It Takes a Village Canine Rescue in Evansville is helping Kenny feed the animals, but the rescue center cannot take in any of the animals due to over-crowding.

Several different breeds of healthy cats and dogs are in need of a new home.

If you would like to make a donation or foster or adopt an animal, call It Takes a Village Canine Rescue in Evansville at 812-250-9247.

You must fill out an application to adopt an animal. The applications can be found on the rescue center's website by clicking here.
