First grade students at Resurrection Catholic School in Evansville recently helped the local community in a variety of ways through a special class project.
Teachers gave all 28 first graders five dollars. The students could do whatever they wanted with the money to "Make a Difference".
Many students asked friends and family members to donate to their cause and help them spread the word. One student took her five dollars and after 11 days ended up with $650.
This is the fourth year teacher Jennifer Vangampler has organized the "Make a Difference" project. She says this year students raised more than $3,440. Over all four years, their grand total is now over eight thousand dollars.
"I want them to learn how to look beyond themselves and notice the needs of others, to be aware that there are other people out there that are not as blessed as they are, and that they can actually do some things to make a difference in the world," Vangampler explained.
Wednesday morning the students presented their projects to proud parents and family members who visited the school.
