Ohio Co. authorities looking for those illegally dumping trash

Ohio County authorities want your help finding out who illegally dumped trash on the road.

Last week, an Ohio County employee and three inmates were picking up litter on the side of the road when they came across a mess that was going to take more than a few trash bags to clean up.

The group found an illegal dump site off Mt. Zion Road near Highway 62 East in Beaver Dam. There's more than seven truck loads of garbage in the gully including tires, kitchen counter tops, barbed wire, 4 wheelers, a bath tub, and other trash covered in snow.

"This is only less than a mile from Jerusalem Ridge, home of the Bluegrass, home of Bill Monroe. People from all over the world come in here to see Bluegrass, traveling these roads, and here it is looking like a landfill," says Ohio County EMA, Charlie Shields.

Officials say tax payers will have to pay for the cleanup. The Ohio County Road Department plans to haul away the garbage this week and expect the project to take all day.

"I mean, we have dumps in the county. There's no sense in this," said Anthony Embry.

If you have any information on who dumped the trash at the site you can contact the Ohio County Emergency Management Agency or Ohio County Dispatch.
