An investigation is underway after a dog was found with a gun shot wound to its nose.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office said someone on Weinbach Avenue saw the dog and immediately called animal control.
Deputies said the dog had been shot and the bullet went through its nose and pierced its shoulder.
The dog was taken to an emergency clinic.
Deputies said because of where the dog was found, they have no suspects in the case.
"Our number one thing is we will try to contact the owner of the dog and, if possible, reunite it with the family," said Sgt. Brad Taylor. "If anyone in the public saw anything, we would ask for the public's help."
Because the owners have not been contacted, 14 News was not allowed to take video or pictures of the dog.
Officials at the emergency clinic tell us the dog is stable and is expected to live. Animal control says the white and gray pit bull is recovering at the vet's office.
