Watson Family cousin says funeral set for Feb 8

MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) -

It was a tough weekend in Muhlenberg County after a massive fire killed 9 family members early Thursday morning.

14 News spoke to a cousin to the Watson family about how their extended family is coping.

Adam Brown is the cousin of Chad Watson, the husband and father of those killed in the fire.

Chad and his daughter, Kylie, were the only two who escaped. Both were flown to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Adam told 14 News both Chad and Kylie are slowly showing signs of improvement.

He said Kylie is still on a ventilator, but is communicating by writing on a white board.

Adam said Chad has not been able to talk to anyone, but he is doing better.

Right now the family is going through a roller coaster ride of emotions but together, and with the support of so many others, Adam says he knows they will get through it.

"We take turns consoling each other," said Adam. "One of us will be find one minute and that will be the person who is consoling. The next minute, that person will need somebody to console them. Overall, there is no doubt our family sees God's grace in this."

Adam said the funeral is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 8 at the Muhlenberg County High School West Campus.

Visitation for the family will begin at 10. Public visitation will be from 11 to 12.

The funeral will follow starting at 2:00.

The Band Perry, a country music group known for it's song about the sadness of dying young, has apparently been touched by the tragedy.

Family members told 14 News the group, made up of three siblings, has offered to pay for the funeral of all 8 children and their mother.

Tim Burden, the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, said the group extended that offer on Friday.

A post on the Watson Family Fundraiser Facebook page said the band has paid for the entire funeral.
