Identity of man killed in deadly hit and run released

The Warrick County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the man killed in deadly hit and run crash.

It happened early Thursday morning on Epworth Road near Chippewa Drive.

The Sheriff's Office says 42-year-old Jeremy Compton, of Newburgh, had run out of gas at the intersection of Epworth Road and Lincoln Avenue and was walking to get gas for his vehicle.

Officials say while was Compton was walking southbound on Epworth he was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.

Deputies say Compton was found lying along the roadside shortly after 2:00 a.m. by a driver passing through the area who called 911.

Authorities say they aren't sure right now what time the actual crash occurred.
