Agencies investigating Evansville/Warrick Co. burglaries

Authorities are investigating burglaries at several Evansville and Warrick County businesses.

It's a multi-agency effort. The Warrick County Sheriff's Office and the Evansville Police Department are working together, saying the break-ins on the east side of Evansville and the west side of Warrick County could be connected.

In Warrick County, the sheriff's office says about $200 was taken from Imagine Hair Design. Deputies also say the suspects tried to break into Indiana All-Star Driving, but there wasn't any cash to steal. Authorities say about $150 was stolen from Fiesta Salons in December.

In Evansville, employees came into a Shell Gas Station on Sunday morning to find the safe and ATM broken open and about $15,000 missing. Police say there was about $1,000 stolen from the adjoining Burger King.

Detectives tell 14 News that $250 was stolen from an Asian diner and the suspects caused more than $3,000 in damage when they tried to pry open the freezer door.

The General Manager at J. Gumbo's, Jessie Singleton, tells us they were also hit during the string of break-ins Sunday evening.

"The cash register was on the ground, busted open. Like someone had pried it open with a crow bar or something. When I got here, it looked like a mess was in here. They went in our drawers in the back and stole our deposit bags. Overall it was only about $300 missing. Now all we can do it take credit card right now because they stole the whole register," Singleton says.

Evansville police say they are reviewing some surveillance video. If you have any information, you're asked to call police.

Fresh produce from an unlikely source in Henderson County goes to feed families in need. It's part of the inmate community service program led by Captain Duncan at the Henderson County Detention Center, and it's changing those behind bars for the better.  About a dozen inmates charged with nonviolent crimes work nearly 23 acres gardening everyday, starting as early as 4 a.m. "It gets me out of the cell everyday.
