Frozen hydrants hamper firefighters in Lynnville

Firefighters ask for extra assistance to fight a house fire at 420 4th Street in Lynnville.

The homeowner said she had a fire going in the wood burning stove.

She was in another room when she heard a big explosion.

When she walked back in, the room was full of smoke, so she got out and called 911.

The Lynnville Fire Chief says the fire would have been easy to contain except they didn't have enough water because nearby hydrants were frozen.

They also had to battle a fire last night and weren't able to fully fill their tanker truck again.

In addition, a nearby pond was frozen so firefighters couldn't get water from there either.

Fire crews from Boonville and Elberfeld were called in to assist.

The house is likely a total loss.
