The Evansville Police Department says a man has been arrested after he fired a gun in an east side neighborhood.

Evansville Police say 23-year-old Jacob Egan has been charged with Criminal Recklessness after he fired shots in the 2800 block of E. Oak St.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police say the first officer on scene saw Egan come out of 2813 E. Oak armed with a handgun.

Authorities say Egan placed the gun to his own head and ignored the officer's instructions to put the gun down. As other officers arrived, Egan continued to ignore instructions and began waiving the gun around in the air.

EPD says after several minutes, the officers were able to get Egan to drop the gun.

After dropping the gun, Egan still refused to cooperate with officers and was taken into custody after being subdued with a Taser.

Police say Egan was given a mental health evaluation before being taken to jail.
