One person was killed and two others taken to the hospital after an accident Sunday morning in Vanderburgh County.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office responded to the accident on Highway 41 near Rusher Creek Road around 9:30 Sunday morning.

The coroner's office told 14 News that 68-year-old Martha Morris, of Princeton and a passenger in one the vehicles, died of her injuries suffered in the crash.

Deputies said it appeared 67-year-old Donna K. McIntire, of Princeton, was driving southbound on Highway 41, and at the last minute, attempted to swerve around a pickup truck that was pulling a trailer and stopped at a red light.

Officials said McIntire was not able to stop in time and crashed into the trailer. Both McIntire and Morris, had to be cut from the vehicle.

They were taken to Deaconess with injuries, where Morris later died.

McIntire and the driver of the truck, 28-year-old Dennis R. Vieira, of Missouri, were not seriously injured.

Deputies said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

Southbound Highway 41 at that intersection was down to one lane from about two hours.
