Posted: Updated:

A Newburgh man was killed Saturday night in a traffic accident east of Indianapolis.

Indiana State Police say they responded to an accident on I-70 near mile marker 140 around 6:00 p.m. Saturday night.

Troopers say a west bound car drove across the median into the east bound lanes, where it was hit head on by a semi.

Authorities say the driver of the car, 31-year-old Patrick Wesseler, of Newburgh, died at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 64-year-old Stoyan G. Stoyanov, of Syracuse, New York, was not hurt.

Troopers say east bound I-70 traffic was detoured off at the Cambridge City 137 exit, SR1, for over two hours while troopers investigated the scene.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Centerville Police Department and the Cambridge City and Milton Fire Departments.
